Her Poem by Richard D Remler

......

I don't like her.
I don't like her at all.

She smokes too much,
Or so I think.

And the music that makes her smile,
Makes my eyes
Water profusely.

Thump thump twang thump twang
Be still heart!

No, I don't like her.
I don't like her at all.

Yet, sometimes,
Not often,
When she looks my way,
It's like I'm seeing a rainbow
For the first time.
And my throat catches,
And I have to take the deepest breath.
And some quiet cool place within my soul
Melts just a little.

And sometimes,
Not often,
A smile is there.
And the clouds that shadow
My graying sky
Part
However briefly,
And I see the sun a gain.
And it is a beautiful thing.

No, I don't like her.

Still, sometimes,
Not often,
When I am not here.
When I am away,
Far away from this place,
I see her,
And I am without excuse.

I am a prisoner
So taken by her
That time itself seems to stop,
At least for me,
And I lose every important thought,
Everything that has substance
And meaning.

She is everything then,
The sunrise and the sunset,
All that I should ever want,
Or need.

And I have to drink her in,
All the wonder of her
Without measure.

The brilliant glow of her wild eyes.
Her stubborn chin.
Unique beauty struggling to be noticed.
To be loved.

To love.

No, I don't like her.
I don't like her at all.

I do like your poem. Very, very much! I love its style, the way it flows and reaches so beautifully and naturally the reader's mind and heart with a charm hard to compare or find. And I love the way you have written the swinging, teasing love it shares.

RE: Your Charlie Brown quote- - That little red-headed girl must have been giving him trouble again! You have written a fine poem, with a twist. Puts me in mind of the song by 10CC 'I'm not in love', where he's fighting and resisting it with all his might and being!

Nicely written verse, tracing the sentiment from aversion to attraction and love. Well done.
