The Peony's Parting, A Blessing Ignored Poem by Afia Gyimah

The Peony's Parting, A Blessing Ignored

Rating: 5.0

Oh, what I'd give for them to stay,
As I saw the petals float away,

My mind racing with intense emotion,
Oh, how it felt like slow motion,

The pink peonies withering away,

As the last of me drifted astray,
I knew I'd forget my everyday,

Marking the departure of my soul,
My consciousness fell into a deep dark hole,

Oh, how the sadness took over as I peered into the sky,
The light I once ignored bringing tears to my eyes,

The pink peonies I decided to let rot,
Turning regret into my only thought,

As my last few breaths grew so small,
I wished I would have appreciated it all,

Everything I never took into consideration,
Finally coming to realisation,

My body growing limp as I took my last breath,
My once racing thoughts calming from the wrath of death,

As my body ceased to exist,
As my soul moved on,

Only then did I learn my lesson,
Every aspect of life is a blessing.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Ignorance is a common theme in my pieces, I really do believe in appreciating absolutely every aspect of beauty we have in this world.
