The Phone Rings At 1 A.M. Poem by Nicole Silvia

The Phone Rings At 1 A.M.

I know you are alone and scared
That your heart and body long for me still
But babe…
At no point in life will I ever be prepared
Because your battle will be long and entirely up hill

I cannot answer to what you ask
Nor can I listen to that which torments your soul
I have long since forbidden myself from the task
Of paving the ragged winding path to your goal

My heart still weeps for your deeply damaged core
But never again will I bend to that which is not my dealing
I could never again lay by you
No… never more
No matter what is believed that you or I are feeling
