Ever since you were young,
You wanted to be older.
At that time in life you thought it would be easy,
Than once you are old,
Life starts to throw you its famous curve balls.
As you slowly progress through,
You start to feel what the weight of life is like.
All the finances,
You have to pay attention to,
All the friends that come and go,
And you later find out are shallow.
Family that leave you in life,
But will never be forgotten.
To me this is a tough feeling.
It is a strong feeling, everyone feels.
To some they say it’s the weight of the world,
On their shoulders.
To me it feels like a noose,
That gets pulled tighter and tighter,
As life slowly moves on.
The struggle of day to day life,
Turns into struggling month to month,
Than the dredged year to year.
After a couple of these years,
I have come to the realization of two options.
One being the easy way out,
The way no one ever sees,
And no one can figure out way,
Luckily that is not the right way for me.
To me the only way to loosen this noose from me,
Is to slowly start looking up,
And trying to slowly start cutting my way out.
Building me stronger,
Taking life’s pressure and turning it for the best.
And once that wrote finally breaks free,
I will be able to look back and wonder,
Why did I ever doubt myself?
I will be able to understand why life gives you all this pressure,
Not to hurt you, but to build you,
Push you to be the best you can be.
But until that day I can cut free,
All I can do is swallow my pride,
And try to be the best I can be.

To conceive of life without difficulties is an existential absurdity. A well articulated piece of poetry, insightfully penned with conviction. A lovely poem indeed. Thanks for sharing James. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.
