The Promise We Wish To Keep Poem by Victoria Lyn Cupid

The Promise We Wish To Keep

Now seeing clearly
Through non bloodshot eyes
Your words have given pain
But also taken it away

I feel as though you wish to leave
But are torn between staying
Yearning to be with me
But don't want to hurt me

You love me truly
Deeply you feel somewhat hurt
Please don't be

Even though we both want to
We tell each other no
Still we can't promise anything

I don't want you to see
The luscious red color
Staining your skin
It may feel good
But remember that it's not

Please remember
That even though you said
You couldn't keep the promise
Because eventually it would break
Just like our hearts
That I still love you

How sad it is when parting from someone dear to us is mandated by fate. This is a bitter sweet poem about goodbyes.
