The Reaper Of Lives Poem by Francis Duggan

The Reaper Of Lives

The monarchs and paupers and the strangers to fame
The Reaper of lives does treat them as the same
On some future night or on some future day
The breath of life from us he will take away.

The Reaper of lives creates equality
The one who is clearly above bribery
If the wealthy and famous could live forever how sad that would be
For those who are living lives of poverty.

The one who claims millions of lives every year
Of the Reaper of lives billions do live in fear
The one who does not have favourites claims the lives of young and old
The wealthy cannot buy time from him with their gold.

The Reaper of lives with his scythe lives he reap
And if not sooner then later our date with him we must keep
He claims the lives of the young and the healthy and the aged frail and gray
And if not sooner then later he will come your way.
