The Remembrance Poem by Jason Summers

The Remembrance

As I walk into the smoke filled room,
'Am I in Heaven? ' Is the first thing I assume.
From corner to corner all the celebrities I see
From Janis Joplin to the past Kennedy's.
The rebel, himself, standing, holding up a wall
My focus is interrupted by Miss Monroe's beckoning call.
In the background I hear 'La Bamba' playing
Elvis on the dance floor, hips constantly swaying.
Walking by I overhear a conversation Jimi and Stevie have engaged
Just then Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper join the stage.
The smell of Groucho's cigar is so sweet
I accidentally trip and the Duke helps me to my feet.
Making my way to the door I feel a tap on my shoulder,
Princess Diana, beautiful and graceful, not a day she's grown older.
She tells me to keep the remembrances I've seen
So that their spirits may live in each memory.
