The Road I Never Took Poem by Randy McClave

The Road I Never Took

I took the road that everyone took
As we started the hike,
Down the other path I did already look
That road like the others I did forsook.
I took the road that we all did like.

We took the road that was laid out ahead
That had no ditches or rocks,
So, down the path we were all led
On that smooth path we did happily and peacefully tread.
Nothing to ruin or tear our shoes or socks

On the path it led us to our destination
Unto the very end of the road,
We took it for the full duration
Man made, not Mother Nature was the roads creation.
A finished line was then showed.

I remember as they spoke of the other road
With its rocks and inclines and dangers as they said,
And how its ancient and unpaved and unused and old
Unto which horses or vehicles couldn't be rode,
And how it could cause pain and dread.

I now think about the road that was ignored
That myself and the others had forsaken,
The one that was created by the Lord
Which Mother Nature had decorated and designed by God's accord.
That other road, I now wish I had taken.
