The Role I Play Poem by Oluwagbemisola O. Lawal

The Role I Play

Whether I'm the saint or the sinner in your script,
It's the part I was cast to play no script I can flip.
You can weep, you can rage, rewrite the whole damn plot,
But God directed this scene, and He doesn't do retakes, not one jot.

I cannot perform what wasn't handed down from above,
No bending, no faking, no feigned acts of love.
Craving an angel? Kneel in some chapel, beg for light.
Me? I'm the thunder He hurled into your quiet night.

Unapologetic, blunt as a blade in the bone,
Your sobs are just kindling to sharpen my throne.
Act out your drama, wail if it soothes your soul,
But tamper with my lines? Watch the heavens take their toll.

The villain? Splendid. The hero? Even more so.
Either way, this is my cue no room for your woe.
Hoard your verdicts, cram them deep in your chest,
I won't rewrite a thing. God's ink is the best.
