False Friends Poem by Oluwagbemisola O. Lawal

False Friends

Rating: 5.0

In the realm where hearts do meet,
And ties of friendship appear so sweet,
There's a tale of trust and deceit,
A dance of shadows beneath your feet.

In the masquerade of camaraderie,
Where every smile is but a spree,
Beware, dear heart, of what you see,
Not all are friends, as they pretend to be.

They wear a guise, a false pretense,
A camouflage to lure innocence,
Feeding on your trust and confidence,
A betrayal served with elegance.

They claim to wish you the highest heights,
But harbor hearts filled with spite,
In their hands, your dreams take flight,
Only to be crushed in the dead of night.

Amid the laughter and the cheers,
They plant the seeds of your fears,
In your success, they shed false tears,
Yet, yearn for you to shed real ones, dear.

In the ebb and flow of time's great tide,
Many a friend has sworn and lied,
Yet, remember, not all have tried,
To keep you anchored by their side.

So when a true friend you do find,
Hold them close, never unbind,
For in this world, often unkind,
True friendship is a rare find.

Their love is a beacon, eternally bright,
In your darkest hours, they are your light,
They wish for your dreams to take flight,
And celebrate your every height.

So tread with care, and keep your sight,
On those who share your darkest night,
And when you rise to your greatest height,
Ensure it's with those who've proven right.
