The Sack Of The Capitol Poem by Doug Lane

The Sack Of The Capitol

They murdered a woman
in the Capitol
today,
and that's not all.
The mob and the President
murdered the law,
our union, and our democracy,
and that's not all.

They murdered the Capitol itself
and all it stands for
and that's not all.

They murdered Liberty.
They gang raped her
and left her defiled body
in the mud of the mall
with her eyes,
her windows,
stabbed out,
and that's not all.

They murdered the majesty of office,
and made an ugly mockery
of everything decent
this country stands for
and they went away laughing,
and proud of themselves,
and expecting to get away
with their atrocity
with impunity,

just as their leader,
their inciter
and inspiration,
always seems to do.

Who knows?
Maybe he'll award them
Medals of Freedom,
and pardons for crimes
yet to be named.

If Devin Nunez and Jim Jordan
are medal worthy,
and Paul Manafort and Roger Stone
are pardon worthy,
then why not this mob?
