The Sad Truth Is Poem by RIC BASTASA

The Sad Truth Is

Rating: 2.9

oh yes
i held your hand
i remembered the warmth
i heard every beat
of our hearts
but
the warmth did not last
like mornings
it faded at the end of the
day
the heart beats
mellowed into the
comfort of
the bosom of
silence

the sad truth is that
at the final chapter
there is only
one man
walking alone
as the sun sets
as you welcome the night
as you finally
arrive in your house
turn on the lights
and cook for yourself
and dine
alone
with your own romantic
candlelight.

hands do not last forever
heartbeats stop.
