The Scarlet Poem by Mark Otieno

The Scarlet

Rating: 5.0

Blood oozed underneath her dress
Her arms feeling her belly with regretful embrace
Not even the tears could undo what she had done
Getting pregnant at her age wasn't her plan
Everybody knew her as the scarlet
Her past was her biggest regret
Now she wished she could go back in time
Change everything that seemed to be moral crime
It was now too late
All she could see was hells gate
The fact of killing her unborn
Ate deep in her soul
Her voice lost in her scream
Been a mother was never her dream
Weakened by shame and guilt
She walked to the bathtub to wash her sin
The night covered what she did
A secret she wouldn't want revealed
