The Sea Poem by Emma Atkinson

The Sea

Rating: 5.0

My love is an ocean,
Rhythmic and constant as the waves,
Each breath a tide of emotion,
That either strands or saves.

My heart drifts, a passenger,
Brushed about by the sighs of the wind,
The only messengers,
The stars set in the sky to guide the blind.

I search with eyes hazed by the ocean mist
And a heart that beats
With a hope that doesn't exist
Except where the sky and ocean meet.

Beyond the horizon crowned with trees,
My legs find new strength in the solidity of earth,
A newfound life in the breeze,
And my heart swells like a fire in the hearth.

There, where the wave meets the sand,
As real and constant as the stars,
Mv Love, with eyes as fierce as the sea, stands,
Waiting with open arms.

Sudden and swift as the tide, my feet rush to meet him,
To kiss his face,
And be anchored by the strength of his limbs,
Be held together by his embrace.

He holds me until the waves threaten to swallow us,
And the sun returns to its bed beneath the sea,
Though its light follows us,
Encircling our hearts like the rings of a tree.

No, not even the current could tear us apart,
Nor the ocean keep him from me,
Not when I held him in my heart,
And my love itself was the sea.
