By the fireside, we sat,
Holding each other's hands,
And looking beyond the vast sea;
Unraveling the mysteries of horizon.
I saw the deepening sorrow in his eyes
As he watched the sun disappearing behind the waves;
Horrified by the deadly silence
I tried in vain to wake him up from his reveries.
But his silence turned out to be forever
As he lay still with closed eyes,
His face still showing the bitter pain and agony
He went through awaiting the inevitable.
And the mere thought of that evening
So silent and melancholy, makes my heart bleed
As I now realize that -
The sun has really set!
-
Ash
