The Shadow Came Poem by Valerie Dohren

The Shadow Came

The shadow came, it took your eyes
The tears were gone, no more goodbyes
I saw them fade, their light grow dim
Then heard you sigh with breath so thin

The shadow came, it took your voice
The words were gone, you had no choice
Just murmurs in a silent world
Were left as whispers soft unfurled

The shadow came, it took your hand
Then led you to a far off land
I saw you drift away from me
Upon that deep and endless sea

The shadow came, it took your soul
Which left a space as black as coal
I saw that space, I felt its void
A life was lost, and one destroyed

The shadow came, the shadow came
It took your name, your precious name
But oh that name I'll not forget
You're with me still, you're with me yet

The shadow came, my world to cloud
It covered me in death's grim shroud
No light, no light has since passed through
Just darkness now for me and you.
