The Shutdown Poem by Randy McClave

The Shutdown

This doesn't make any sense at all
You deliberately and intentionally want our country to fall,
You want to shut our government down
As you wear a smile and not a frown.
Without money or funds this will happen still
When our government won't be able to pay a bill,
OSHA would be halted
But, you'll work being one of the exalted.
Student aid and loan programs would be disrupted
Because, of you and what you had instructed,
The FDA would be forced to delay food safety and prescription
And halt drug manufacturing inspections without exceptions.
The air traffic controllers would work without pay
The VA offices will be closed that day,
WIC and SNAP recipients would lose their benefits
The children and the needy would suffer without prejudice.
Other government employees will be laid off
As some Congress members just snicker and cough,
And they won't have any money for food or bills to be spent
Because, of the shutdown money to help wont be sent.
Congress doesn't live paycheck to paycheck
They don't have bills and debts and worries to their neck,
Many are just wanting to make some type of ridiculous point
With their beliefs unto others they want to anoint.
If you voted to shut down the Government this I believe
I voted for you to keep it running and not to deceive,
So, if our government gets shutdown because of your vote
Congress SHOULD NOT! get paid either, we the people have spoke.
