The Sky Poem by David Miao

The Sky

When I was younger, I did not understand,
Why it was that I should aim for the sky
When clearly I was more suited to the land
And looking up only made me want to sigh

The stairs to the stars upon which I stepped
Seemed to be made of nought but thin air
And if ever I got too high, for sometimes I leapt
Down I would crash, much worse for wear

But when I stopped for a moment and observed
I was actually on the very top of a hillside
And so it was that I realised the use it served
For without the will to fly, all that’s left is to slide
