For Granted Poem by David Miao

For Granted

A splash of water on my face
Droplets falling away to waste
The constant flow keeping pace
It always did, it always will

Just like the food on the table
Each with its own little label
Or my friends voice through the cable
Reviving a topic we had already bantered

But are life’s essentials always there?
Will the ones I love…disappear?
Surely it’s just crazy, blind fear?
But don’t you feel slightly ill?

Always acting so cocky and brash
Or does the guilt come in a flash
Sometimes we all need a splash
To remind us of what we take for granted.
