The Snare Poem by zaheer uddin

The Snare

Satan with a worried look
hurried to his desk and books
after a while he thought aloud

'why not call my mates for lunch
and find a way to land a punch
at humans in their quest for God
To make this life worthwhile- -

Armed with all their crooked hooks
the demons met with nervous looks

'We can't stop all from worshipping
The single God they all believe
We cant stop all the holy ones
from getting close to God-
Our power is of no use
our spells without a sting
till all of them keep up their lives
in laws ordained by Him-

' Come let us use the devil's guile
and catch them unawares- -

Break up the bond they have with God
break up that precious link '

Where do you think
should we begin
to break this holy link?

'Tempt them in the little things
keep them in your fold
let them race each other
in piling up that gold
Keep them in their flashy cars
keep them in their dreams
throw those plastic cards to them
and teach them how to spend-
Tell them its okay to spend
while they're having all the fun
see to it when they're hooked
its time to pay the debt- '

So now they have to work some more
to pay the mortgage and the bills
A job they all must grow to love
to keep them off the road- -

Fill up their hours from dawn to dusk
and keep them always in a rush
Yes Coffee surely gives a kick
a smoke can help relieve the stress- -
a book is sure man's best friend
They'd grab one at the store-

Home should be a place they come
to pass the night or socialize
to have their friends over for lunch
to flaunt their wealth and style- -

Why must the wife stay behind
why should she be a slave
She too must don her pants
and get to work on time- -

The kids should have their fun
with mom and dad both on the run
They too must have their cell phones
and friends online most of the time- -

Keep them lost in this maze
keep them on their heels
fill up their thoughts with music
when theyre behind the wheels- -

Bit by bit by and by
The inner voice that pricks the mind
would die within their souls- -
