The State In Which We Exist Poem by Raymond Farrell

The State In Which We Exist

Rating: 5.0

More and more
It becomes apparent
Like never before
That 'Elitists' are in control
Others are mere pawns
With no meaningful role.

Poetry has its elite
90% published in journals today
Cannot accomplish this feat
Without letters behind their name
Indicating a literature major
An MFA and more of the same.

Politics is the Big Game
Complete with established parties
However diverse, acting the same
TO achieve the common goal
Of maintaining power over the many
By giving a few control.

Most laws are put into place
By authority delegated to a bureaucracy
That lacks a human face
Everyone's now a number in some database
We are merely statistics
That exist in cyberspace.

Such is the state in which we meet
Greet, eat, read, think and live
All influenced by some self-appointed elite
Their motives are clear and hardly discrete
Their message the media happily promotes
With bias, prejudice and deceit.
