The Storm Poem by Brenda Harper

The Storm

The day had been a stormy one
Not the outside but within
My heart was beating rapidly
The turmoil was about to begin
Now came the hurt
So deep, piercing the soul
A pain that I know so well, a pain that would only grow
No medications to dampen this storm
No helpers to help along the way
It was just me, and myself
This time I had to fight for myself today
The tears fell down, gushing through
Like a waterfall or a dam that just blew
Not a simple tear from the soul crashing through, out of control
Defeated for a moment
Then angered beyond control
Which was worse this I did not know
Shutting down, as the river of tears went away
My emotions dry and beat that day
As I awoke I became a new
Was I better now?
Cold and alone or with those who broke me right here at home
