The Stronghold Poem by Thea Pound

The Stronghold

This is my stronghold,
Where I contain my fears,
To hide that which has haunted me,
And festered through the years;
A closet for my skeletons,
To hold them all at bay,
A sanctuary against my demons,
And the penance I can't pay.

This is my Stronghold,
And though I've locked myself inside,
I'm safe from others prying,
On the things I daren't confide.
No one can see inside here,
The darkness is locked up tight,
So, on the outside I can smile,
And conceal the endless fight.

This is my stronghold,
I guess its a fortress of sorts;
Everyone thinks I'm the same,
While I hide away my thoughts.
It's turbulent behind these walls,
But I can withstand the violence,
And I can scream away within,
So long as I maintain the silence.
