The Sunrising Poem by OGECHI VERONICA

The Sunrising

Rating: 5.0

On this sloppy ground
We sat, starring and counting the stars
Singing teary melodies to the dark night
As we converse with members of the elusive world
Bowing heads against betrayed fate

The world watched in scornful glee
As we engrave, on this hollow sand, the memories of the pitiful scourges of pain
Everyone rejects us for we are black
Dressed in haggard rags
We are the voice unheard in the wilderness of thorns

We are the lack that take your lack
On our heads, we bear your luggage
Though the shrill cry of the night owl greets us with horror
Yet we hope for better fortune and brighter days
We shall rise above the ground

We shall stand tall amidst the sea of struggles
Painting in hue, our troubles
Amidst the ruins, we shall rise
Above the pangs of death, we shall rise
Breaking forth from the Iron gates

As the sun rises
We shall rise above the chains of sorrows
As songs of victory caress our soul
Beloved, let us sleep now...
For the sun shall rise at dawn tomorrow.
