The Terrors Poem by Paulos Ioannou

The Terrors

The terrors of yesterday
Are here today
Marching in unison.
See them and tremble,
Hear them and cower,
Feel them and recoil.

There are no secret places to hide in
There are no doors to exit,
Windows to open,
Protections to employ.

Walk very carefully,
Measure every step you take
For there is no right and wrong
Direction in the shadows
Of the descending night.

Mind what you say
What words you use
For in the expression of the word
They would know you
For they are coming to get you
As surely as yesterday
In your grandfather's time
