The Things I Should Be Thankful Poem by Uma Pochampalli Goparaju

The Things I Should Be Thankful

I am glad I am still living,
In reasonably good health..
I know I need to excercise,
Eat in a balanced way,
Stay healthy and work
Work, so I can use my time
To help others do their work
Efficiently, and help fulfill
The dreams of the kids,
And the family
My dream has always been
To be a poet, but to be a poet,
I also need to work, so I can
Pay my bills and get them printed
So I learnt skills to do some
Numbers, and some talk
And if I remember by the end of the day
Though reluctantly, I walk, or so I try
I could also, breath well to stay well,
But even that I hardly will..
Surprisingly, God is still kind,
And gives me another chance
Now is the time to work better
Or you will forever be a bother
I think of it once again
And choose to choose the right
Decision and do the right thing,
However, everytime I get hungry,
About noon, after loitering until then,
I make a quick lunch, may be boil
Some noodles or pasta and repeat
Day after day; well then,
God reminds me again
How are you going to control
Yourself and your future,
If you cannot as much control
What you eat this minute...
I look away from His eye
And tell myself,
God! He always catches you!
He smiled and said, it is a typo
it should read He watches you!
I said, it is a typo again,
He said, yes, it is not a typo but type 2
Either you control your drool
And what you crave
Or you will reach your peril
And rest in the grave!
O Boy! I will follow rules
And take care of my self
By taking care of those
Who are still counting on me
And my listless activities!
I thank God, that I escaped the day!
That I beat the bullet and
Have something to say!
Well my friends,
Lets do the right thing
By not just chosing to do it right,
But also do the right!
Or I know I will also end in having my rites!

Time and again, even though I know I have to excercise and do things right, I neglect.. this is a reminder, for being declared Type 2'd...
