The Tombstone Poem by Randy McClave

The Tombstone

Dear people, the tombstone does say
Whenever you might pass by one,
Please look at me and read me today
Before, you decide to move on.
The tombstone stands in the graveyard
All alone and sadly neglected,
The name and the date is old and marred
Many years ago, it was first erected.
It reaches out when people passes by
But, no one pays any attention anymore,
It remembers the person who did die
It was born, when life had shut their door.
The tombstone is made of polished stone
A beauty for the eyes to see,
We though are made of flesh and bone
That is how God created both you and me.
When we die we are buried deep
The tombstone tells family and friends where we rest,
Then for us our loved ones know where to weep
And where we had ended our earthly quest.
Do you wonder how I lived and how I loved
Or the pain that I experienced and that I knew,
Or how I received or did I pushed and shoved
Maybe even what I dreamed of, or did do.
Maybe someday someone might find this spot
And maybe they'll come to pay their last respects,
Maybe then they'll look upon this tiny lot
Maybe they might even wonder about an ex.
The standing tombstone shows a name
And it tells when I was born and when I died,
It doesn't show my worries or the blame
Or who for me, at once cried.
The tombstone does read
Please look at me when you walk on past,
I was erected here to show and greet
And to remember, nothing does forever last.
