The Truly Victorious Poem by Romella Kitchens

The Truly Victorious

For much of my lifetime I had felt as if a convict.
Then, God came and set me free.
Here, I stand before my accusers and know I am alien to them -- dark,
mysterious, to be repudiated and scorned -- perhaps even scourged,
my life completely without value to them...
their lives having weight and value because they say their lives do.
Yet, now I understand through God, I am not the villain they tnd to make of me.

Here I stand before my accusers, knowing quite well they have evil intent for me but knowing also that I have seen them fall one after one to each other
and by fates therein much worse, contrived and violent than even when they pick up and wield the sword against all of us who wish them no harm and are not their enemies, simply because we are from another Land, another place, another race, ethnicity, class or religion.

WE ARE NOT THEIR ENEMIES.
