The Ultimate Sacrifice Poem by Ari Ryan

The Ultimate Sacrifice

The smell of death,
Bullets flying in the air,
Hostiles are approaching,
Carrying a sense of despair.

The price of freedom never came free,
The fights over the islands,
Just for you and me.

Six Veterans raised a flag
So high everyone would see
The sacrifice that was made
Before The others flee.

The waters were rising,
Thousands left dead,
Marines left to bleed
With a bullet in their head.

The win was inevitable,
So why didn’t they stop it?
A fight over an island
And some money in a pocket.

The ultimate sacrifice made
To carry the woe of the day.
Within a month 36,000 die,
The battle, maybe unnecessary
On either side.

The streets run with blood,
But still we stand tall,
We are the home of the free
The brave and the proud.

The ultimate sacrifice
made by so many
What have you done to give back
To the home of the free,
Your very own country?
