The Uninvited Ms. Anxiety Poem by RIC BASTASA

The Uninvited Ms. Anxiety

uninvited
anxiety comes
and enters your
once peaceful
home
you ask it to leave
it won't
you ask for its
name
it won't say
any word
it goes to your
kitchen
and you think that
it must be hungry
so you feed it
with fried chicken
and red wine
hoping to befriend it
but it goes
to the cabinet to take
a sharp knife and
goes near you to
stab you
and this time you
lose your patience
you hold her and
thrusts the knife
back at her
and she laughs
at you
she does not bleed
she is not hurt
she hurts you more
she does not die
unless you do
something to
appease her
simple
do your work
clean the house
attend to your garden
plant more flowers
raise a poodle
and a cockatoo
play with the kids
stroll at the park
dance the tango
sail the boat
fly a kite
have a spa
and a massage
and when you come
back to the room
where she is staying
she is no longer
there.
