The Unknown Poem by Sally Heffer

The Unknown

When I'm with you, I revert back to who I used to be.
The girl who was happy, before she was destroyed; before she had to hide herself.
And I tried to hide it from you, like I do to everybody else,
but somehow you knew my secret

Before you came along I always wore a mask,
to hide the girl I knew no one would want to see.
My heart became covered in ice, so cold and numb.
When people ridiculed me it was like shooting bullets at a steel wall.
All feelings and emotions were frozen in time, with no intention of thawing them out.

Your like a blazing fire that is slowly warming me up.
Bringing me back to life; melting away the ice
And it scares me to death that I can feel again.
Yet it feels so good to feel something and know I'm alive.

But will you walk away like everybody else?
Or will you stay here with me keeping me warm?

The answer still remains to be seen!
