The Promise Poem by Sally Heffer

The Promise

THE PROMISE...
My pain rips into my chest and tares at my heart.
Every heartbeat is only necessary for life,
My heart is numb to everything else.
I feel no happiness, no joy not even fear.
Life is only sustained because you want me here.
That day I said those words, I thought they were just words.
So for you, I'll remain and endure the pain.
You need to know I want to be where you are,
Not here!
I'm only staying alive because I promised I would.

{ I wrote this poem, these are my words}
