Unseen Poem by Sally Heffer

Unseen

If you look in my eyes you'll see a little girl
When you look at my smile, you'll see that nothings wrong.
.................
That is exactly what I want you to think
.................
When I look in my eyes, I see pain, sorrow and uncried tears
When I see my smile, I know it's fake
................
So why is it that no one else sees it?
Why don't they see my pain, sorrow or the uncried tears, you ask
They don't see it because I hide it well.
................
I hide the pain to protect the people I love
I hide the sorrow with my smile, it has become my mask
I cry the tears at night, in the dark
And I suffer in silence, a silence that is slowly destroying me
