The Unsent Letter Poem by Puskar Sikdar

The Unsent Letter

Rating: 5.0

Oh, Father! Oh, Father!
What has happened to you?
Are you weary or lost in sorrow?
I am here, forever true.

Oh, Father! Oh, Father!
Why do you stay so still?
I relive those cherished moments,
Thinking you've left against your will.

Oh, Father! Oh, Father!
Why didn't you send the letter?
I would have replied with love,
And a picture of your sweet granddaughter.

Oh, Father! Oh, Father!
Have you truly left this world?
You could have told me once more—
I'd have cared for your flesh and blood unfurled.

Oh, Father! Oh, Father!
Please forgive me, I plead,
I cannot find peace within
Until you grant a chance to me.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The Unsent Letter: A Cry for Father's Love— is a reflection of longing for words never spoken, for hands never held again. It's a letter from a child to a father whose silence still echoes in the heart. Some letters are written not to be sent, but to be survived. This is one of them and symbol of a secret echoes of emotions. I really don't have the idea how this poem evolve from me and how it will hit others, readers. I'm really sorry for that, written almost two years ago 9th June,2023 in a familiar summer afternoon and it came out of nowhere. I can't even remember in which situation I was at that moment, but the poem came out and I stored it in my files and didn't share either. I think, this isn't a bad idea if I publish this poem in this beautiful poetry home of Poemhunter. So, I take a chance and hope it will find peace.
