they take their leave
go to their houses, lock the windows
and doors
and stay there
away from us
we take our daily work
as though nothing happens
we continue working all day
serving the people who need
us most in these critical times
and the virus comes and stops
and takes a look at us
dedicated workers of our times
and the virus nods and smiles
and gladly pass us by
taking mercy at our mission
and believing in our cause.
