The Visit Poem by H E Alexander

The Visit

Lay sleeping in your temporal world of dreams,
I come to visit you, but O so briefly here;
I am upon my final journey, it seems,
your honest soul has brought me near.
The light so bright in translucent beams,
my time is come, but I shed no tear;
do not be scared
no harm will come to you,
just a small moment shared
then I am ready for what I must do.

Though I speak, my voice utters no sound,
these brittle bones no more can cause me pain,
this fragile flesh no longer will weigh me down,
the blood has ceased to flow through my veins.
My soul is a mirror of my life's account,
reflecting an impassioned poet's refrain.
My cloak of white
flows long and free,
my passage made light
by heavenly spirits carrying me.

May I wait with you just a little while until
my time on earth draws to an end this night.
I have come to you, but not of my own free will;
something compelled me, supplanting any want of flight.
I know that you can see me as you lie so still,
but I must leave, pass beyond your sight.
He is come here
beckoning me on;
so goodbye, my dear,
this world has closed. I am gone.
