The Visitor Poem by Amar Agarwala

The Visitor

‘Let death come upon my doorsteps
And knock as lightly as it can,
I promise to answer sooner
Than any other living man.

I shall endeavour to be quick
Knowing death would have little time,
Will offer my breath as a gift
To honour its sojourn sublime.'

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
WHEN DEATH COMES

Death comes and visits both the fool's and the sage's door, so why will then a poet be left out. But unlike any other, a poet will bear a certain warmth when welcoming it, after all - do not all poets belong to a different plane?
