The Vulture--Ii Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

The Vulture--Ii

When I was a child, I used to see
The vulture,
The big bulging vulture
Perched upon the leafless,
But red blossom-laden branches
Of the simal tree
For days
During the late spring,
I used to see it perched
On the rock of the hill
And sometimes I used to see it
Into the fields laboring on a carcass
Of a big dead animal
Again I used to see it atop the tin shade
Of the abattoir
While passing by the way
Of the distant far-off city,
But there came a time
When I saw it struggling to fly
Which I saw it silently
As there was none by me
To hear me and to whom I could have
Lodged my complaint
And after seeing their plight
One day somehow
I wanted to go after and to tame,
But none in the house appreciated
The kind gesture
Of rearing a necrophagous bird
And after that saw I it not anywhere,
The bird vanished out of sight,
The numbers fell it miserably
And the existent came under the scanner
Of the conservation status.
