The Wall Poem by Sam Byron

The Wall

You’ve pushed me so far away,
That you claim you’ve lost me,
And my love.

But you don’t seem to understand,
That no matter what you do,
Or say.
Or even
how many times you stab me in the back.
I will always love you.
Because that is something
That comes naturally
When it comes to you.

You never ask
You just assume.
You say you want to fix things
But you don’t know how.

And yet when suggestions are given
You ignore them.
You say you want to do it your way.
But to tell you the truth
I think that your way
Is doing more harm than anything else.

You never ask what I want
And I never say.
We end up fighting
More than not.

Half the time you say you want to listen
But I don’t think you know how.
But at least your trying.

While the other half of the time
You say you don’t care.
And that only builds up the wall
Around my heart.

I want you to knock it down.
To say your sorry
To have a good relationship.

But I’m almost afraid
If it happens
I’ll only be hurt again
And the wall will go up

Only this time higher
Than the last time.
And all the times before.

And if it does.
Then it might not come down
Ever
Again.
