The Way Of A Ship Poem by Cicely Fox Smith

The Way Of A Ship

Give me a tall barque swinging
South'ard with all she'll stand;
Give me the sea's voice singing
Far out of sight of land;
And East way or West way,
North or South of the Line,
The way of a ship is the best way -
A ship's way the way that's mine!

Give me the royals gleaming
Silver against the moon -
Give me the white wake streaming,
Give me the Trade's old tune . . .
And East Way or West way,
Up or down the sea,
The way of a ship is the best way,
A ship's way's the way for me!
