finally the only happiness
of the fallen leaf is to simply
enjoy the free fall of its
body in the air until it finally
reaches the grass of its
final resting

others are lucky falling on the
river taking their cruise towards
the sky blue sea.

after all just like us we have learned
these things of loss and deprivation
with the comfort of time's flexibility for
numbness and all that come and go in the
windows of our lives are nothing but the
winds of our common fate.

we have become artists with the curtains that
we put by the windows
and the veils that we keep on our heads and
faces
and people still wonder if we still have those
marble eyes those skyline eyebrows
those sun-kissed cheeks
those strawberry lips those honey tongues.
