The Weird' Wolf Poem by norman hale

The Weird' Wolf

I have a bat hanging on my shoulder
And a big rat at my feet
Walking along beside me
Waiting for something to eat

They are just my pets
But they fit this time of year
And it's fun to watch kids
Take off screaming in fear

The bat hangs on my shoulder
Until the night time falls
Then he goes out for his hunt
Using his radar calls

Did you know that a bat
Eats his weight in bugs in a single night?
Now that's not too bad
For something that has no sight

Now the rat is just a pet
Like any cat or dog
Except when it comes to eating
Then he acts more like a hog

I don't think I'm a warlock
But I do prefer the night
So maybe I'm a were'wolf
Moving around in the moonlight

Maybe I should go now
For I'm growing more than just a beard
And my ears and fingers are growing
AH MAN, IT'S JUST AS I FEARD

This is delightful! And though I don't have hair on my face (yet!) I have had rats as pets (they're very smart and affectionate) . Also, I once had a Mexican Freetailed Bat that my grandmother found half frozen on the ground; she gave it to me, I fed it canned milk with an eye dropper, and had it for a couple of weeks! Thanks for the memories!
