The West Poem by Ojeikpo Elijah

The West

The West has taken Africa by surprise,
With colonizing tactics, they did devise.
They came with promises of wealth and aid,
But soon their true intentions were laid.
They divided us with borders and lines,
Ignoring our culture and ancient shrines.
They exploited our resources for their gain,
Leaving our people in poverty and pain.
They forced us to speak their foreign tongue,
And discarded our traditions like they were dung.
They built their homes on our sacred land,
And refused to let us take a stand.
But Africa is not just a land to own,
It's a rich, vibrant culture that has shone.
We may have been conquered, but we are not defeated,
Our spirit and resilience cannot be depleted.
We rise together, united and strong,
And fight for what has been ours all along.
The West may have taken Africa for now,
But our heritage and pride, they cannot plow.
We will reclaim what rightfully belongs,
And sing our own victory songs.
So take heed, oh West, and hear our call,
Africa will rise and stand tall.
