The Woman I Used To Love Poem by Ceejon Ezinwoke

The Woman I Used To Love

Rating: 5.0

She was perfect in my eyes
I didn't have cataract at all
It was love that I felt for her
With this throbbing heart of mine

I asked for a little smile,
Then she lent me laughter
And joy and a reason to live,
In this world brief with grief

I was surprised she did not know
That we've known for donkey's years
For she was the woman in my dreams,
The actress in my reverie films

She was tall like a Sokoto date palm
With legs that could melt candle wax
A smile that suited my very being
And turned my hell into a heaven

She had these mystic white eyes
Like a jigsaw turned upside-down
Like some deathly black dove's
Perhaps a gracious white raven's

I hate to admit it, but I loved so much
She opened her purse and showed a ring,
The woman I loved was another's wife
Whose love I must resist with all my being

All that is left are those memories,
Of the woman I used to dearly love
The woman whose love is poison and vile,
The woman for God's sake I should never love.

A good depiction of the temperamental and whimsical nature of love, well articulated and nicely brought forth with insight. Thanks for sharing Ceejon.

Robert, it surely was infatuation.
