The Word Gay Poem by John Tammar

The Word Gay

Rating: 5.0

The word gay use to mean happy and now it means love.
The word gay is now ablanket term for being a member of the LGBT community.
When someone says "I'm gay" they might mean.
"I'm a lesbian."
"I'mbisexual."
"I'm pansexual."
"I'm asexual."
"I'm demisexual."
"I don't feel like explaining my sexuality to you."
So we say
"I'm gay"
But the word gay has gone from a blanket term for all sexualities to an insult that cuts deep like a knife. The word gay has been condensed into a phrase a package size portion of hate a punch to the face.
Because when you use the word gay to describe something you don't like I don't hear,
"That's so gay."
Instead I hear,
"That's so stupid."
"That's so disgusting."
"That's so horrible."
But being gay is not stupid disgusting orhorrible so why has the word gay become an insult that means these things?
When you use the word gay to describe something you don't like you are implying that you don't like gay people.
When you use the word gay to describe something you find disgusting you are implying that you are disgusting by gay people.
The world doesn't want your homophobia.
Take you micro-aggressions and throw them away there is nothing wrong with being gay.

Moral judgments are religion's go to. Labels only serve to divide. Be happy!

Brave utterances set aside for sober reflection. Really an insightful piece of poetry written with clarity of thought and mind. Thanks for sharing John.
