There I Stand Poem by Mitzi Albright

There I Stand

I travel through these streets one step after the other
Looking for the time that I once knew
The days just pass me by while I keep walking
Searching for that road that leads to you
There is no map to where I'm going
I follow hints of days gone by
But while I dream of some direction
I see your smile inside my mind.
You're standing off in the distance, as I near my destiny
You turn and run into the darkness, and I weep in misery.
My rising voice can never stop you
My tears are ones of uselessness
You call my name and then I follow
Longing for your tenderness
I walk alone as I continue
No one knows the pain I hide
My broken heart has never mended
Still it beats for you in stride
You're standing off in the distance, as I reach for you through tears
You turn and run into the darkness, as I fight past all my fears
You'll never live outside my memories
Yet you're everywhere I go
You move in close when I slumber
But I wake and I'm alone
I'll never wane in my progression
You are the prize I'm reaching for
I only pray that I will find you
Then I'll rest forever more

You're standing off in the distance, reaching out I take your hand
You turn and run into the darkness, you slip away and there I stand
