Forever Love Poem by Mitzi Albright

Forever Love

Rating: 5.0

Barefoot flower child,
Left by herself
Learned about life
From no book on the shelf

A hippie at heart,
It was truly her groove
Woodstock was calling
So she got on the move

Threw on her love beads
And headed for town
Tripping so high
Thought she’d never come down

Could find no takers
Everyone’s so uptight
So she called up the band
And they jammed all night

She could sing like the wind
Belting out all her blues
Her soul felt the music
Like mystical clues

Her presence was electric
And made you aware
Of the goodness of life
But she didn’t care

She panhandled for change
To get through the day
Then bought a lid
To make things okay

Her real friends died off
It made her so sad
Joplin and Jimmy
Too soon, too bad

So she found relief
In the arms of a man
Who loved her completely
Without one demand

But they called him to serve
And it was her reaction
Don’t worry my love
It’s just police action

Then a box came home
And they gave her a flag
No more of her lover
Just more of a drag

She never recovered
The dread of that day
She continued alone
And some may say

That they heard her singing
In the dead of the night
When the air was still
And the stars in flight

She called to her lover
From a lonely stare
“I’m coming my love “
“I want to be there”

They found her at peace
With his picture in hand
Ever clutching her beads
To the promise land

She now lies beside him
In a simple pine crate
Forever his lover
Forever her mate
