There Should Be A Handbook For This Kind Of Thing. Poem by Isabelle Parkes

There Should Be A Handbook For This Kind Of Thing.

People remind me no man is an island, so I guess that makes me a state.
These people love so many, even the ones they should probably hate.
I don’t want advice from people who can’t take it,
Like I don’t want life lessons from people who fake it.
I tried all the emotions, time for something new,
That was my figuring when I met you,
You’re lucky you caught me in that frame of mind,
Let’s watch it again, stop when it should, then rewind.

Cry me a river and I’ll cough up a storm,
We’ll battle it out and wake up in the morn,
When you’ll feel all the things you shouldn’t have felt,
And the warmth in my heart will make my soul melt.

Tell me your dreams died; I’ll visit the grave,
Rewrite all the mistakes that you ever made,
If I can’t then just tell me how you think I should grieve,
‘Cause there’s a cheat somewhere near with an ace up his sleeve,
He’s risking his life? Well to me that’s just fine,
I’m sure as hell not gonna put my life on the line,
But when he’s betting your life in a dangerous pitch
You can show me his face and I’ll show him my fists.

Cry me a river and I’ll cough up a storm,
We’ll battle it out and wake up in the morn,
Lost in our world and forgetting the day,
What is it you said about feeling this way?

I want to be someone you have no problem liking,
Give you a drink I had no problems spiking,
Can you see me now? Can you see me now?
Wipe the dirt from your eyes and I’ll show you how,
Keep tabs on your brain so you don’t lose your head,
I couldn’t bring myself to do it so drag me there instead,
What is it inside me that’s craving your kiss?
It’s so damned confusing, aren’t there handbooks for this?

Cry me a river and I’ll cough up a storm,
We’ll battle it out and wake up in the morn,
When you’ll feel all the things you shouldn’t have felt,
And the warmth in my heart will make my soul melt,
Lost in our world and forgetting the day,
What is it you said about feeling this way?
