There upon the wall
There hangs the flag
To those that are proud
It is much more than a rag
There on his chest
Hangs a small purple heart
For duties he had served
In a land that was so far
There in his dreams
Are the nightmares from the war
Like it was a lifetime ago
And he prays there will be no more
There on his cheek
A tear rolls down his face
As he remembers his buddies
From another time another place
There in his mind
He sees it coming back again
War after war after war
When will they ever end
There in his heart
Is pride from what he has done
He fought well for his country
With both knife and gun
There in his prayers
He prays for all his sins
And prays for his enemies
As well as his fallen friends
