These Are My Thoughts Before I Sleep Poem by Joshua Bantum

These Are My Thoughts Before I Sleep

The chill felt upon dawn after a fire has gone out,
is like no other chill,
your body is a stone of heat,
and as the ash from bonfires gather
through it's pores you leak.

These are my thoughts before I sleep.

The taste of friendship is cut short,
the ride you've hitched has withered dead,
you're back in contact with the street,
miles of land solemnly tread,
all of this travel in hopes we'll meet.

These are my thoughts before I sleep

Entering my home after adventure
I'm congratulated by many who don't matter
I avoid the shallow and sheep,
seeking instead,
day in and day after
the beauty of red which travels deep,

These are my thoughts before I sleep

it's your pulsing heart which is the base of my art
It's your smile that has fended off the cold,
alike this song tucking you in asleep
you've made it comfortable growing old,
finally wrapped in rest by silk sewn sheets,

These are my thoughts before I sleep.
